Lens View {Nuts About Sketches #293}

This week is Sketch #293 at Nuts About Sketches.  Time for another sketch and layout!  I've been using up Authentique's Thanksgiving line on summer vacation photos and a few Thanksgiving cards - I really love the colors in this line!  Anyway - The sketch that I used has circles on it and I really felt that photos that my son had taken would work perfectly for this sketch.

#NICE {My Boys}

Good morning,

Last night was a night of craftiness for me - little girl is sick - so there's not much that I can do - except sit by her and try to get her to eat some soup.

While sitting with the cutie pie, I created this layout of my boys using a photo from vacation.  We were at The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, CA getting ready to watch the IMAX movie about Monarch Butterflies.  They are such handsome men!

Thankful Layout for {Practical Scrappers}

I absolutely love November for so many reasons, one of which is the colors - I am truly a brown, rust, beige, toss in a bit of burn orange and blue kind of a girl.  This month's layout sketch from Practical Scrappers was the perfect set up for a time to reflect on what I am thankful for.  Last year, I started documenting daily the things, people, events that I am thankful for.  This year, I am continuing the practice.

One of the many things that I am thankful for is, of course, my family.  They bring so much joy and wonderment to my life that I could not imagine life without them.  This summer - we went to the Redwood Forest to tent camp and hike.  I am absolutely thankful that I have time with them to explore the outdoors and share memories.

A couple of my scrappy gal pals at Creative Embellishments have a November challenge up on their blog and all you need to do is to use this photo as inspiration.
I love the photo and of course the colors - so I combined the color challenge with my sketch challenge using this sketch from Practical Scrappers:

Drill #18 S.W.A.T. {Family Together Time}

S.W.A.T Drill #18 - Sketch with Wood Embellishments

I really had a great time with this sketch!  A bit of spritzing, some sewing, and a large handful of circles in all sizes.  Even when photos don't come out perfect, they are still worthy of being scrapped.  This is one of those photos - I didn't care for the deep shadows toward the bottom of the photo - but it still works and I love the memories I have from this year's vacation.

Explore {Nuts About Sketches}

Nuts About Sketches #286

This was a terrific sketch for multiple photos - I have literally hundreds of photos from our family vacation and this was the perfect sketch to capture three photos on one page.  We took a rather lengthy hike {12 miles} that took us 6 hours to complete.  We were rained upon and saw very few other hikers - but its one of those events that we will all think about for years to come.

Nuts About Sketches Week 281 {Sand In My Toes}

Hello!!  This is my first DT post for Nuts About Sketches - Week 281.  For this week’s layout, I used Simple Stories “Summer” to craft another page {Sand In My Toes} in our vacation album.

For the first time, I’m using transparencies.  I’ve always seen other crafters using them but I just never really know what to do with them - or - how to adhere them.  I cut apart a few words and then placed them on top of the photo.  Beacon’s 3in1 glue worked the best for me.  When I saw this sketch, I just knew that I would be using my Kiwi Lane Designs Templates for the curves on the sides.

Have a great day and check back weekly for NAS layouts.

Contemplating the Beach {Drill #13: Trendy Triangles}

While on vacation this year, my sweet husband took several photos of the kids as they roamed the beach.  It was a tad chilly when we started our adventure, but then the sun came out and we were amazed at all we could see in Monterey, CA.

I adore photos of the kids when they don’t even know we’re taking photos - my son looks like he’s really contemplating the ocean and its hidden treasures possibly even mapping out his day of discovery.

Using triangles on layouts helps to highlight or point the way to a focal point on your layout and I’ve added a bit of machine stitching to the triangles - I think it gives them an “arrow” look.

Be sure to upload your layouts, cards or other projects to S.W.A.T’s Drill #13 - Trendy Triangles.

Endless Possibilities {SS Birthday Challenges #1 - #4}

ScrapbookSteals.com is celebrating their Fourth birthday!  To celebrate, they hosted an online chat with four different challenges.  The first challenge is to create a project using only four different types of materials.  I used FOUR:
  1. patterned paper
  2. tuille
  3. pre-made flowers
  4. ribbon

Now on to the rest of the challenges ...

The second challenge is to scrap an event from 2009 - that was the year that we visited my parents outside of St. Louis, MO.
The third challenge was to create a project using your favorite vendor - My all -time favorite is Stampin Up!
The fourth and final challenge is to use four different washi tapes on one project - I created this "Thank You" card.

Have a Scrappy-Happy Day!!

Santa Cruz

We had a few days of rain on our vacation this year and while most people would take to the indoors, we did not!  We were trying to find a place called Mystery Spot and get a few groceries before heading up to Big Basin Redwoods State Park; and ended up on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz.

The kids had a blast on a few rides and then it was time to hit the arcade.  To my honey’s surprise there was a section of “Classic Arcades” - he could not resist playing Donkey Kong.
